A NEW EXHIBITION: SKIN

"Skin has become inadequate in interfacing with reality. Technology has become the body's new membrane of existence"- Nam June Paik

Nam June Paik's prophetic quote has become an unavoidable truth in modern culture. The means of experiencing personal interaction, celebrity, and nature has changed drastically since the start of the Internet age. But rather than regressing or denying this truth, we embrace our new interfaces and explore the possibilities that comes with them. Delving into areas of environment, identity, the internet, and pop culture, we celebrate our SKIN. Exploring our experiences mediated through technology, the internet, and how this affects how we perceive identity, environment, time, and memory.

OPEN INVITATION TO THE PRIMMER SHOWING OF SKIN

Monday, April 2, 2012 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM
The exhibition closes Friday April 13th.

GIFT OF TIME
NYU SCHOOL OF MEDICINE  STUDENT ORGANIZATION
An Evening with Nicki Muller
Thursday March 15, 2012, 6:30 PM

Gifts of Time is teaming up with The Painting Club to host a painting activity for students with Nicki Muller, a 21-year-old patient at NYU. When Nicki was a young girl, she was diagnosed with osteosarcoma (bone cancer). Since then, she has used art and writing to explore her emotions and her experience with cancer. Last fall, Nicki's exhibit, "Bone to Brain," was featured in the NYU Medical Science Building (MSB) Gallery.

This year, Nicki was diagnosed with a high grade glioma (a brain tumor), for which she is currently undergoing chemotherapy. She continues to document her experience on her website.

Nicki is a pediatric and brain cancer awareness advocate. She has graciously accepted our invitation to speak with medical students about her battle with cancer and to then paint with us.

Paint and canvases will be provided, and the activity will center around the theme of expressing pain and illness through art.

After the activity, there will be a contest for the three best paintings. Submissions will be judged by Nicki, and prizes will be awarded to the winners.

For more information about Nicki, please visit nickimuller.com
